Werribee’s new law courts are due to be completed later this year, but there are questions on when they will be up and running.

The $272 million facility will be the largest court complex outside Melbourne’s CBD.

It was due to be open in March next year, but that has been pushed back as there is no money in the latest state budget to fund staff and operations, according to a report in The Age.

A Wyndham City spokesperson said the current court facility was outdated and unsafe.

They said the city’s population had grown to more than 300,000 since the law courts were built.

Community legal centre Westjustice said it was also concerned about a delay in the opening.

Shadow Attorney General Michael O’Brien said it seemed the money was not there.

“So even though they’re building a new law court, there’s no money to fill it with judges, magistrates or court staff,” he said.
