A GDFNL investigation has found “no evidence” of a Bell Post Hill player making a homophobic slur during Sunday’s win over Geelong West at West Oval.

The Giants, who lodged a complaint with AFL Barwon on Monday before the matter was referred to the GDFNL are unimpressed with the outcome.

The GDFNL delivered its findings following discussions with the club and the accused player.

“The evidence found that there was bad language by spectators, and the accused player became angry with what was being aimed at him, and he did retaliate verbally but did not use homophobic language,” President Neville Whitley said in a statement.

“Both club and players have been informed of the protocol and behaviour that is required and expected by the league.”

Geelong West Chair Sarah Naylor says the Giants “are extremely disappointed with the investigation and the process that has taken place by the GDFNL”.

“We have multiple witnesses that are willing to make statements, and we are currently in the process of getting advice as to what we can do next to have this dealt with appropriately.”

Bell Post Hill defeated Geelong West by five points to register its fourth win of the season.
