Police are looking into whether a red 4WD could be a key lead in the disappearance of a Bannockburn woman more than 11 years ago.

Lorrin Whitehead was last seen at a supermarket in the town on the afternoon of Friday, February 8, 2013.

A witness reported seeing the 41-year-old get into the driver’s seat of the 4WD, while a second person reported seeing the vehicle parked outside Lorrin’s home on the weekend of her disappearance.

Police say Lorrin did not own a red 4WD at the time she went missing.

Her disappearance was described as being out of character, with no additional sightings of the mother, while her bank accounts have not been touched.

Detectives has spoken to several members of the community in recent months, as they explore all possibilities in relation to Lorrin’s disappearance.

They are also hoping the owner of the 4WD will come forward.

Detective Acting Sergeant Clive Martella said it was a deeply concerning case for police and Lorrin’s family.

“Multiple witnesses have reported seeing a red 4WD in the vicinity of Lorrin’s property before her disappearance, including one person who believes they saw her getting into this vehicle in the Bannockburn CBD on the afternoon she was last seen,” he said.

“Given Lorrin did not own a red 4WD, we are asking the owner of that vehicle to come forward as they may be able to lead us to Lorrin.

“This investigation is very much active, and we are as committed as ever to finding answers for Lorrin’s family.

“We also believe there may be others in the community that have information about this vehicle or know something.”

Anyone with information is being urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
