Locals of all-abilities will have an opportunity to try a number of sports this weekend.

It comes with the launch of the Geelong All-Abilities Sports Club with their family day to be held on Sunday at the Barwon Regional Cricket Centre at Kardinia Park.

“In Geelong, there hasn’t been a lot for a lot of kids, including kids with disability away from the mainstream sports,” he said.

“So it’s been really exciting to have this event launch and to get the club up and running.”

Smith says it’s an exciting time.

“We’ve seen a few clubs and leagues form in sports around the region in recent years,” he said.

“We’ve now been able to come in and provide this option for kids, especially those between 5 and 15 to come down and try a number of sports.

“We’ve been working with clubs to try and set some more programs up. It’s been fantastic to see kids of all abilities taking part in as many sports as they can.

“Hopefully we can see this continue to grow across the region.”

Smith says they hope the club can get more people involved in sport.

“We’ll have a number of sports for the day,” he said.

“We have sports like basketball and football, we’re also going to have Golf Australia down and involved in the day, as well as lawn bowls.
