The Victorian Fisheries Activity says a whale carcass was reported off the coast on Thursday afternoon.

The advice is in place for Thirteenth Beach, Barwon Heads and Ocean Grove.

Fisheries say swimmers should avoid the area, and not enter the water at closed beaches.

Anyone who spots sharks close to the shore should call Triple Zero, or notify lifesavers if they are at a patrolled beach.
