Police have revealed a man who’s SUV collided with two parked cars in Highton returned a blood alcohol reading of a staggering 0.317 – more than six times the legal limit.
Police allege the 47-year-old, from Highton, was seen driving eratically on Gratham Drive at around 7.20pm on Wednesday night.
He was intercepted by officers from the Public Order Response Team in Frogmore Way a short time later.
His grey 2021 Nissan Patrol was immediately impounded and the driver was taken to Geelong Police Station for an evidentiary breath test.
His licence was suspended and he will be charged on summons with multiple traffic offences.
The man’s vehicle will remain under impound for 30 days and he will need to pay towing and storage fees totalling more than $1000 to retrieve it.
A blood alcohol reading higher than 0.30 is considered to be a medical emergency and can lead to coma or death.
Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the erratic driving or who has dashcam footage to make a confidential report to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the web at http://www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
