Avalon Airport is still pushing for an international carrier to call the local airport home.
The international terminal has remained empty after AirAsia X withdrew flights during COVID.
Airport CEO Tony Brun said talks were continuing with airlines.
“We’ve been working closely with the state government, we have a few target airlines and we’re still working on them,” he said.
“We still believe that it’s the right outcome for Victoria to have two competitve international airports to drive prices down.”
Mr Brun admitted it had been harder than they had hoped to attract the right customer.
“But when it comes, I think it’ll bring significant change (to the state).”
It comes as Jetstar prepares to take off to Brisbane from the local airport in June.
