GMHBA staff are donating blood this week as part of the annual Health Services Blood Drive.
It is hoped more than 10,500 blood donations will be made across the country during the initiative which is running until the end of June.
Meg Rayner from the local health insurer said they were happy to support staff who visited the Geelong Blood Centre.
“We know that in Geelong, 100 local people are needed to give blood and plasma every day, seven days a week,” she said.
“Each of these donations can save up to three lives.
“There is a special focus on healthcare workers as a group, just because we are so acutely aware of the need coming into the winter season.
“When people need those donations just to survive day to day, we really feel like we can make a difference.”
