Calls for new indoor sports complex

The City of Greater Geelong is calling for investment in an indoor sports complex for the region.

Mayor Trent Sullivan has written to Premier Jacinta Allan, asking for money due to go towards an Armstrong Creek swimming centre to be diverted to a sports facility.

The swimming centre was to be a legacy from the now-scrapped 2026 Commonwealth Games.

However the city says there are many swimming centres across Greater Geelong and the Surf Coast.

It says the pool would put financial pressure on ratepayers.

The council says another another stadium for basketball and netball will help meet growing demand.
