Community hits out at Marles’ office vandalism

Geelong mayor Stretch Kontel has called out vandals who attacked Richard Marles’ office.

The deputy PM’s Geelong office was targeted by graffiti on Wednesday morning, with a window smashed and graffiti sprayed.

The mayor telling the Herald Sun the vandals were pathetic cowards.

“There’s no room for that type of activism, and anyone who is doing that is being anti-Geelong and anti-Australian,” he said.

Mr Marles earlier telling 3AW’s Jacqui Felgate the behaviour was unacceptable.

“This kind of vandalism is pathetic,” he said.

“It has no place in our country, and it should be condemned in the strongest possible terms.

“It’s intimidating people who are not political actors. My staff, who are there helping the people of Geelong, they have to face it.”

Commentators also took to the Geelong Broadcasters social media pages to express their disappointment.

“Guess they’ve moved from one office to his other, bloody idiots, and this behavior only proves they are,” said on commenter.

“Disgraceful vandalism,” said another.
