The local footy community is set to gather in numbers on Friday to farewell a man synonymous with local football.
The memorial for Les Ash will be held at the Leopold Memorial Park from 1 pm, following his passing at the age of 88 last Friday morning.
Les was the Foundation President of the Bellarine Football Netball League, inaugural league Life Member, and naming holder of the Les Ash Medal for the Bellarine Senior Football Best and Fairest winner.
Mr. Ash was also an important figure at the Leopold Football Netball Club, where he was the inaugural secretary when it was founded in 1955, before five seasons as president in the 1960s.
AFL Barwon said Mr. Ash “played an integral role in the establishment of the Bellarine Football Netball League and the integration of the Bellarine District Netball Association in 1972.”
AFL Barwon says the local sporting community is welcome to attend Friday’s service, with a full streaming of the day also available on AFL Barwon’s website.
