Geelong’s small businesses are facing a tough few months, as they try to entice shoppers ahead of Christmas.
A new survey by MYOB suggested a quarter of Australians would rein in spending over the holidays due to the current cost of living crisis.
Jeremy Crawford from the Geelong Chamber of Commerce said there were a lot of sales happening.
“One thing that is probably worth noting is for Geelong is that we do typically have a really strong visitor economy towards the end of the year,” he said.
“But there is still a couple of months before some of those major events bring some visitor attraction.”
Mr Crawford said many sales happening at the moment were driven domestically and globally.
“Geelong is also a place where people like to come and see some of the retailers, enjoy spending, hospitality, particularly around the waterfront and CBD areas.”
