As Australians head off to the polling booths Geelong star Patrick Dangerfield has made a last minute intervention in the debate surrounding an indigenous voice to parliament.

The Brownlow medallist took to social media on Friday night, uploading images of himself writing the word ‘yes’ on a ballot paper.

Beneath the post he added the words “it’s time”, along with the colours of the Aboriginal flag.

Dangerfield joins Collingwood captain Darcy More in declaring support for the Voice.

Last week Moore told the ABC he felt that recognising First Australians in the constitution, and giving them an advisory voice to parliament, felt like the “intuitive next step” and “an important and practical way to help Indigenous Australians.”

He pointed out that Australia had had a number of previous advisory bodies that had not created division in the community.

Both Moore and Dangerfield are highly respected and well educated athletes – Moore is studying a Masters of International Relations while Dangerfield is being touted as a future AFL Commissioner.

Tennis star Ashley Barty and AFL legend Adam Goodes have also come out in support of the ‘yes’ vote.
