New designs have been released for the new Barwon Women’s and Children’s facility in Geelong.

The $500 million project includes a new maternity ward, inpatient rooms and play spaces within the Barwon Health hospital precinct.

The Victorian government says community input helped shape the designs, through online surveys, workshops and a community consultative committee.

The final designs are expected to be completed later this year, when the main construction works are due to start.

Works should be completed in 2029.

Health Minister Mary-Anne Thomas said the facility would ensure families have the best maternity and paediatric care closer to home.

“It’s critically important we build a facility that represents the community it serves. which is why we’re listening to the community to shape this flagship project for the region,” she said.
