A driver has died and another is under arrest after a fiery collision in Truganina the early hours of Thursday morning.
A car flipped and burst into flames after being hit by an SUV on Hopkins Road just before 1am, the driver of the flipped vehicle was rushed to hospital where they later died.
Police say a 23-year-old man behind the wheel of the SUV, fled the scene on foot before he was apprehended by officers a short time later.
The Hillside man is now assisting police with their enquiries, the exact circumstances surrounding the collision are yet to be determined and investigations remain ongoing.
Just hours beforehand on Wednesday night, another man died when his car was hit by a train at Pascoe Vale in Melbourne’s north.
Investigators have been told a car and train collided at a level crossing near Burgundy Street about 8.20pm, his female passenger managed to exit the vehicle before the collision.
