UPDATE: Ex-Geelong player Ray Card has been charged over a fatal collision in Lara on Saturday night.
The 67-year-old was sent to hospital where he has been under police guard, following the collision on the Geelong Ring Road around 11.20pm.
His 57-year-old passenger understood to be his wife, died at the scene.
Card was charged with culpable driving causing death and dangerous driving causing death on Tuesday.
He was bailed to appear at Geelong Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
EARLIER: Former Geelong best and fairest Ray Card has been identified as the man involved in a fatal crash on the Geelong Ring Road on Saturday night.
The 67-year-old who played 110 games for the Cats, has been under police guard in hospital since the crash in Lara on the weekend according to the Herald Sun.
A 57-year-old woman who was a passenger in Card’s car died at the scene, while a 23-year-old Lara man and 19-year-old Lovely Banks woman in the other vehicle were hospitalised.
Card played between 1977 and 1987, and won the Carji Greeves Medal in the 1983 season.
Investigators are also asking for anyone who may have information or dashcam footage to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
