A six-kilometre stretch of Barwon Heads Road will be duplicated, with funding announced on Friday for stage two of the upgrade.

The $68.2 million investment from the Labor government will see construction start later this year on upgrading the road between Reserve Road and Lower Duneed Road.

Member for Corangamite Libby Coker said works will also include new traffic lights and upgraded intersections, along with a new shared-use path.

“We have always committed to upgrading the road to the Mount Duneed roundabout.

“So now with these extra dollars, $68 million, we will ensure the road is future-proofed for this rapidly growing region.”

Ms Coker said she was confident the infrastructure commitment will keep up with the growing population, with the Armstrong Creek area one of the fastest growing areas in the country.

“In Armstrong Creek, in particular, we’re going to see massive growth.

“We’re set to see an extra 30 thousand people here in the next few decades.

“It’s a substantial investment.”

Delivery will start in late 2025, and the federal government says it will work closely with the Victorian government and local community on the upgrade.
