Papua New Guinea’s Defence Minister will visit Geelong today for important talks around a new security pact.
Richard Marles will host his counterpart Win Bakri Daki as the pair tries to wrap up the deal.
The deal was slated to be signed by the middle of this year, but was delayed by a separate agreement between PNG and the USA.
The member for Corio and Defence Minister said Australia had an important relationship with our northern neighbour.
“PNG is an increasingly important defence partner for Australia,” he said.
“We do a lot of work together, with joint exercises.
“There’s a lot for us to talk about, and it’ll be a great opportunity for me to show Minister Daki the beauty of Geelong.”
