The smoke haze that has blanketed parts of Geelong is still around.

Locals noticed the haze on Wednesday afternoon, but Keris Arndt from the Bureau of Meteorology said it was not from the fires in the state’s west.

“The majority of the smoke yesterday was actually coming across Bass Strait from Tasmania, from fires through western Tasmania,” he said.

“Although the fires out to our west around the Grampians and Little Desert are still producing a lot of smoke, the flow was actually from the south.”

Mr Arndt said it should not be as noticeable today.

“We’ve lost a bit of that southerly though, so we’re not likely to see more smoke from Tassie.

“In fact we’re in a southeasterly direction, so any smoke from any of the fires to our west or south we’re unlikely to see much impact today.”

Geelong is in for a top of 30 today, before the temperatures cool over coming days.
