The husband of a Point Cook mother found dead in a wheelie bin near Winchelsea has reportedly travelled to India.
Chaithanya ‘Swetha’ Madhagani was located deceased on Mount Pollock Road near farmland in Buckley around midday on Saturday.
After searching a Mirka Way property in Point Cook where Swetha is said to have lived with her husband and son, police released a statement saying they believed it was connected to the homicide.
“At this stage in the investigation, it is believed the parties involved are known to one another and the offender may have fled overseas,” a police spokesperson said.
A family car and bags of evidence were taken from the scene, but there’s been no further release of information from police since then.
News Corp is reporting that police believe Ms Madhagani’s husband, Ashok Raj Varikuppala, recently flew back to India along with the couple’s 3-year-old son.
The news outlet is quoting an Indian police spokesperson as saying that Mr Varikuppala had handed the couple’s son to his mother-in-law, who is the deceased’s mother.
“As of now, we don’t know where he is as we are not investigating the case without any complaint,” the police spokesperson said.
It’s unclear if, or when, Australian police may contact their Indian counterparts with a spokesperson for investigators in Melbourne saying “there are no updates.”
