Inmates test positive to drugs

There has been a slight increase in positive drug test results at Lara’s Barwon Prison.

The Drugs in Victorian Prisons report shows there were 26 positive results in the year to May, compared to 20 in the year to April.

The most common drug was Buprenorphine, which is a synthetic opioid, with 20 results among the local prisoner population.

Meantime, there have been more positive drug results for methamphetamine at the Dame Phyllis Frost Centre than other prisons.

Data shows there were 48 positive results for ice in the women’s correctional facility in the year to May.

There were 156 positive tests within Victoria’s entire prison population prison for the drug.

Six inmates tested positive to the drug at Marngoneet in Lara, while there were two at Barwon Prison.
