The jetty at the St Leonards boat ramp has undergone upgrades, as part of a state government plan to make it easier for locals and tourists to hit the water over the summer.
Minister for Outdoor Recreation Steve Dimopoulo said the new features hope to provide better protection from wind and waves and lower landings to improve accessibility.
“The Bellarine is an idyllic boating location and many families start their day at this ramp, whether they’re catching a Christmas seafood feast or simply cruising along the coast.”
Design and construction have been led by the Victorian Fisheries Authority’s Better Boating division and coastal land manager Bellarine Bayside.
Boaters will have more space to tie up, with the end T-section doubled in length.
Non-slip decks, rubber fenders, cleats to tie ropes, and solar lighting have also been put in place.
More upgrades will be introduced in 2025, with seating on the jetty and a hoist on the accessible pontoon on the agenda.
Plans for reconfigured parking and additional ramp lanes are being progressed, also set to undergo community consultation next year.
Member for Bellarine Alison Marchant said she would like to thank locals for their patience.
“This ramp is a fantastic addition to the many options for boating and fishing on the Bellarine,” Ms Marchant said.
Boaters can check conditions and parking availability online before leaving home, thanks to a live webcam onsite.
