Landy Field is set to have its track upgraded with recycled rubber.
City of Greater Geelong says it will use more than 50 tonnes of recycled rubber as part of upgrades.
The recycled rubber also likely to include former truck tyres.
City of Greater Geelong chief executive Ali Wastie says the use of recyclable materials is something they had been prioritising.
“Our Environment Strategy promotes a circular economy through sustainable procurement practices, supports new and existing markets for recovered resources, and promotes increased use of recycled materials in road, building and other infrastructure constructions,” she said.
“The work being undertaken at Landy Field is innovative in its nature and current users as well as future generations of athletes will benefit from these substantial upgrades.”
The track project expected to be complete in coming weeks.
