University Hospital Geelong will be used as part of a rollout of new standards for Victoria’s health system.
The state government announcing the new standards will focus on faster patient care, supporting emergency staff and getting paramedics on the road sooner.
University Hospital one of six regional and 17 metro hospitals to kick off the roll out.
health minister Mary-Anne Thomas said it was essential the state always looked for ways to improve the health system.
“While our ambulance and ED wait times are heading in the right direction – thanks to our hardworking healthcare workers – we know there is more to do which is why these new standards are so important,” she said.
“Despite significant and sustained demand, our hardworking doctors, nurses and ambos are making sure patients continue to receive world-class healthcare – and these new handover standards will help deliver that care even sooner.”
