An Aussie brand will close the doors of over ninety stores, with Jeanswest shutting up shop.
The brand first entered administration in 2020 increasingly difficult trading conditions as they reason for closure.
The brand has stores in Leopold, Waurn Ponds and Point Cook.
There was previously a location in Westfield.
It’s another blow to the local retail industry after a number of brands including Rivers and Katies went under last year, seeing a number of local stores closing and cost local jobs.
Retail expert Gary Mortimer says there’ll be even more job losses as a result of the latest closure.
“Nearly 4000 jobs have been lost over the past 12 months,” he said.
“But it’s incredibly tough out there. Unfortunately when cost of living starts to erode at consumer confidence, people stop spending in these areas.”
The company has been operating since 1972,
