A Whittington man has been caught allegedly breaking into several cars over the weekend, with local police saying there’s been an ‘elevated’ number of reported thefts from motor vehicles.
Geelong police officers arrested the 23-year-old on Monday morning, charging him with six offences including theft of motor vehicle and obtaining property by deception.
Police allege the man committed several thefts in the CBD area over the weekend, stealing from unlocked cars, taking credit cards and committing a large number of ‘tap-n-go’ offences throughout Geelong.
The man was found on Monday hiding in the roof of a friends house and taken to Geelong Police Station for questioning.
“The male’s offending has hurt families in the lead up to Christmas,” Sargeant Darren Evans said
“People are losing hundreds of dollars before realising they have been the victim of crime.
“This arrest is a big win for community safety and Victoria Police who will request the male be remanded and not bailed.”
