A Diggers Rest man accused of stabbing anther man to death at a Point Cook resort and day spa has been remanded in custody to face court again in October.
28-year-old Anthony Ford faced Melbourne Magistrates Court charged with murder and a number of other offences, following an incident at the Season 5 resort on Point Cook Road on Sunday.
It’s alleged Ford got into an altercation with 35-year-old Benny Singleton on Sunday afternoon.
Mr Singleton was later found suffering from stab wounds and died at the scene.
Ford did not apply for bail and was remanded until his next appearance on October 9.
Police and SES volunteers spent Sunday afternoon and much of Monday searching the area around the resort, including the nearby Saltwater Reserve which hosts the Point Cook Soccer Club, a kindergarten and a tennis centre.
Friends of Mr Singleton, who is understood to have grown up in Wyndham, said they were shocked to learn of his violent death.
They described him as a ‘gentle giant’ who was kind, big-hearted and always happy.
“He was definitely not a fighter,” one person told Geelong Broadcasters through tears.
“He was always joking.”
Detectives are still investigating the motive behind the attack.
