Man surrenders after 10 hour siege

A man has been taken to hospital for evaluation following a ten-hour stand-off in Geelong.

Police were called to Raven Street, Geelong West, at around 1pm on Sunday following reports of an armed man on the premises.

Neighbours have told Geelong Broadcasters the man had threatened police with a crossbow, however this is yet to be confirmed by police.

The street was cordoned off and people in neighbouring homes were instructed to stay inside as police negotiated with the man.

Officers from the Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) surrounded the apartment block and two ambulances stood by in a nearby street,

The incident dragged on well into the evening before the man surrendered peacefully.

No-one else was in the home at the time.

No-one was injured and police are expected to speak with the man today.
