New apartment-hotel opens amid visitor boom

Geelong’s newest hotel is ready to welcome guests, with Quest Central Geelong opening amid a recovering visitor economy.

The 87-room apartment hotel was officially opened along Gheringhap Street by Deputy Prime Minister and Member for Corio, Richard Marles on Tuesday.

Local franchise business owner Greg O’Shea is looking forward to welcoming guests amid a want for holiday makers to get to the region again with COVID lockdowns in the rear window.

The Geelong visitor economy is experiencing a 15% increase in spend this past year and expected to be worth $1.2 billion by 2025 and bookings are strong heading into holiday season with major events and concerts.

“People have been hanging out to attend (events),” Tourism Greater Geelong and the Bellarine’s, Brendan Sanders said.

“Whether or not they’re concerts or sporting events, attendance has been right up there and people have been going in their droves,” he said.
