More than 40 fines have been handed out at the V/Line car park in Geelong this week, where cars have been illegally parked.

Police have received more complaints in recent weeks, with cars parked outside marked bays or in no-standing zones.

Some drivers have complained they have not been able to leave due to vehicles illegally parked, with some waiting up to four hours before getting out of the car park.

In one case, a woman raised the alarm as she could not get out to pick up her children from daycare.

The offending vehicle was towed and the driver fined almost $200.

Officers say they are aware people who work in the CBD are parking their vehicles in the car park, which has an impact on passengers needing to use the train.

Police are warning they will continue to patrol the area.
