Malone Street in Geelong has been cordoned off after a nearby death of 40-year-old man (Will Bondington).

The Homicide Squad is leading investigations into the death of a Geelong man outside his Western Beach Road home.

Police say the 40-year-old man was unknown to them before he was found dead by his wife at 4:00am this morning.

Detective Sergeant Tony Hupfeld says it was not unusual for the man to leave home around 10:00pm each evening, but his partner was concerned when he had not returned home but their dog had.

“When she woke around 4:00am to find that he was not home, she’s gone outside the address and found him deceased,” he said.

“He had significant head injuries and unfortunately passed away before he was located.

“We’re keen to speak to anyone who may have seen him, who may have been out and about last night, or heard anything suspicious between 11:00pm to 4:00am.”

Detective Hupfeld said the man often walked his dog between 10-11:00pm at night, but told reporters the animal was at home.

Much of the search has focused on the adjacent Malone Street that has been cordoned off by police and where the man had been found by his car.

“It’s too early to say,” the detective said when asked if there was any link to an allegedly abandoned building near the corner of the two roadways.

“We’re keeping an open mind at this stage.”
