Locals are being encouraged to buy a red Poppy ahead of Remembrance Day.
The Poppy is a symbol of remembrance for those who have died in wars, conflicts or peacekeeping operations.
Two of Victoria’s oldest Poppy sellers have been out in Torquay.
Peter Thomas from the local RSL said Cec Browning and Ray Lancaster had been volunteering for decades.
“Cec is 99 and would not miss selling poppies or Anzac badges any year,” Mr Thomas said.
“He has been there for decades selling them.
“Ray Lancaster is 94 and he’s the same.”
Mr Thomas said the sales raise funds for the welfare of current and former veterans.
“Especially those that are in need.
“This time there are many, many veterans from many, many conflicts who suffer physical and mental conditions and they need support.”
There will be several ceremonies around Geelong and the Surf Coast on Saturday for Remembrance Day.
A minute’s silence will be held at 11am, marking the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month when the guns on the Western Front fell silent in 1918.
