Shadow emergency services minister Richard Riordan has taken aim at the government over funding of the CFA.
It follows reports that the government had slowly stripped close to $70 million in funding from the CFA to devote to other areas.
The report says the funding changes have happened as the government increased contributions to the FRV and Triple Zero Victoria.
Volunteer Fire Brigades Victoria says the money could’ve replaces ageing tankers, with the member for Polwarth accusing the government of neglecting the regions.
“When a bushfire hits regional areas, it’s the volunteers who are fighting it, not the paid fire fighters in Melbourne,” he said.
“Regional Victoria is facing one of it’s worst fire seasons ahead.
“Not only are regional Victorians paying tens of millions of dollars in fire services levies, but they’re also having operational cuts to the tune of tens of millions of dollars.
