A new scoreboard has been dedicated to local legend Ian Redpath at the Geelong Cricket Club’s Kardinia Park oval.
The Geelong native played 66 tests for Australia in the 1960s and 70s.
Cricket Club Vice President Michael King said Ian has always been dedicated to local talent.
“Ian was always very strong from day one that continues today that you nurture local talent,” he said.
“You don’t bring in paid, professional players towards their mid to late careers.
“You nurture then from a youngster up, and you create a strong culture around that.”
Ian’s son Andrew said it was great to see his dad acknowledged on Monday morning.
“It was really impressive to see a lot of old faces and people related to cricket, both domestically and for the state turn up for dad,” he said.
“You know, you don’t choose your parents, you definitely don’t choose your father so it’s a real blessing to have dad.”
