A huge crowd is expected to turn out at Mount Duneed Estate as US girl band The Chicks make their return to Australia following a six year absence.

The crossover country rock/pop group is the latest international artist to take to the A Day on The Green stage at the local winery, which continues to attract some of the biggest names in music to Geelong.

The Saturday night show is one of nine scheduled performances for the Chicks’ current Australian tour. Only three will be played at outdoor venues.

The group, formerly known as the Dixie Chicks, has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide and is the biggest-selling US female band of all time. Their 2006 release, Taking The Long Way, won five Grammy Awards including Album of the Year, Record of the Year and Song of the Year.

The Chicks dropped the word ‘Dixie’ from their name following the Black Lives Matter protests in 2020. The word was historically used to describe the US Confederate states that upheld slavery.

Gates to Mount Duneed Estate will open at 3pm, with support acts with support acts Carla Wehbe and Elle King due to hit the stage from 4.45pm.

The Chicks’ performance will begin at 7.30pm, with the show expected to wrap up at around 9.30pm.
