Fire crews are on alert across Geelong and the Surf Coast, with temperatures soaring into the high 30s in the city on Saturday and Sunday.
The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting a top of 37 degrees on Saturday, and 36 on Sunday, with a heatwave warning in place across both days.
The fire danger rating is listed as high across the weekend.
Ambulance Victoria is reminding locals of the importance of swimming between the flags at patrolled locations as people flock to Surf Coast beaches to cool off.
They say parents in particular are urged to remain vigilant, with drowning amongst children often a result of accident falls.
As a result of the heat, V/Line will be running an extreme heat timetable along the Geelong line on Saturday, with expanding tracks preventing trains from travelling above 90 km/h.
Locals taking the train are advised to check the updated schedule and allow for extra time on their journeys.
