Weather warning for damaging winds

A severe weather warning has been issued for the Geelong region, with wind gusts of up to 100km/h forecast.

The Bureau of Meteorlogy says strong winds averaging up to 60km/h may also be felt before they start to ease this afternoon.

Gusts of 102km/h have already been recorded at the Point Cook RAAF Base.

Geelong has officially had more than 7mm of rain since 5am, while the Surf Coast has had more than 4mm, and more rain is expected during the day.

The SES is advising drivers to safely pull over away from trees if conditions are dangerous.

Locals are also being encouraged to check loose items are safely secured in yards.
