The New Spirit of Tasmania ships may not be taking to Corio Bay in 2025 as planned.
The upgraded Devonport terminal has been delayed and is not set to open for at least another two years.
The news comes as TT-Line’s Geelong terminal marks two-years of operation at Corio Quay, after the ferries moved from Melbourne.
Tasmanian Premier Jeremy Rockliff has taken to social media, saying his government would prioritise building the permanent berthing infrastructure in Devonport.
He said ships could also be leased out until the terminal is ready.
“If no appropriate option is found and the vessels need to be stored in Tasmania – we will ensure TasPorts will not charge TT-Line to do so,” he wrote.
“By leasing the vessels, Tasmanians will benefit financially and avoid the need to incur further maintenance and storage costs.”
Mr Rockliff said fares would be reduced over peak periods for Tasmanian residents due to the delay.
