Geelong is set to be the home base of one of the world’s premier baseball teams.

The KT Wiz, the 2021 KBO champions from South Korea, set to base themselves in town for a six week camp later this month.

It will see the club bring a group of around 80 to town for the camp.

The club set to invest in upgrades for the Geelong Baseball Centre as part of their stay.

“We appreciate the City of Greater Geelong providing such great training facilities to KT Wiz,” club GM Na Do-Hyun said.

“Geelong has the perfect conditions for our players to prepare off-season with high quality facilities and nice weather.”

Geelong mayor Stretch Kontelj says it was a great outcome for the region and the sport.

“Hosting the KT Wiz camp here in Geelong will not only offer a unique opportunity to showcase Geelong on the international stage but it also promises to bring significant economic benefits to the region,” he said.

“The camp will also drive improvements to our local baseball facilities, benefiting the community long after the camp concludes.”

Geelong Baseball Club president, Adam Renouf said he hoped it would have a positive impact for the sport in the region.

“This marks an incredible opportunity for cultural exchange and baseball excellence,” he said.

“There will definitely be a buzz around the diamond, this provides us with a unique opportunity to host and watch these talented athletes and showcase elite level international baseball.

“This can only promote our club, our region and our sport through our shared love of the game.”
