Anakie’s quest for a return to relevance in the GDFNL has received a boost following the signing of former Western Bulldogs and Geelong star Luke Dahlhaus.
The Roos, who have “won” three consecutive wooden spoons and claimed just one victory since football recommenced after the COVID-19-impacted 2020 season, unveiled Dahlhaus’ signing on Monday night.
A Leopold junior, Dahlhaus was drafted from the Geelong Falcons by the Bulldogs via the 2011 Rookie Draft.
The 31-year-old played 154 games and kicked 110 goals with the Dogs, and was part of their drought-breaking 2016 premiership.
He joined the Cats ahead of the 2019 season and featured in the 2020 grand final loss to Richmond among his 71 matches in the Hoops.
Following his retirement at the end of the 2022 season, Dahlhaus joined former Bulldogs’ teammate Clay Smith at Western Region League club Point Cook, helping them to this year’s grand final.
The arrival of Dahlhaus follows the signing of Jayke Mawson as Anakie’s new coach last month as a replacement for Daniel Bunworth.
