A mass changing of the guard at the City of Greater Geelong will ultimately benefit the council, according to former mayor and current councilor Peter Murrihy.
Three female councillors have quit in the last year, the latest being Steph Asher over the weekend.
Ms Asher announced she was leaving as she will be moving to Melbourne.
The city also lost CEO Martin Cutter in 2022, with his permanent replacement due to start later this month.
The threat of administration has also hung over the council, while two monitors were appointed earlier this year.
Councillor Peter Murrihy admitted it had been a challenging time, but new faces could help the city.
“Internally we’re working hard, some new faces will help,” Cr Murrihy said.
“I think in the long run ratepayers can be assured and confident that we’re working for them and in the best interests of the community.”
There is no word at this stage when a new councillor will be appointed to replace Ms Asher.
