Netflix has officially announced that they will have ads on the streaming platform.
But worry not, it won’t be for everyone. The new ‘Basic’ plan is the only subscription that will feature ads throughout the shows.
The Basic plan which features the ads will cost Australian users $6.99 per month and is launching country wide on November 4th.
Netflix say that the ads will be around 15 to 30 seconds in length, targeted and audience specific and will play before, during and after the shows.
If you’re thinking about changing your plan when it launches, Netflix say that some TV shows and movies won’t be available straight away due to licensing restrictions but they say that they’ll be working to get rid of those restrictions.
Before today’s announcement, back in September, the Sydney Morning Herald reported that the ad spots have been offered to only national advertisers and the spots won’t be available to any brands or companies advertising gambling, cryptocurrency products or any political messages.
The current tiers of membership will also stay in place once the new options drops and unless you change to the new plan, no customers will have to see any advertising.
Netflix aren’t the only streaming platform launching plans including advertising with Disney revealing that they will do the same in 2023 which will launch in the U.S. for US$7.99 and haven’t confirmed an Australian plan or price.
