The funeral of Her Majesty The Queen will take place at Westminster Abbey on Monday, 19th September at 8pm Australian time (7.30pm in NT and SA).
Elements of the State Funeral Service and the associated ceremonial arrangements will pay tribute to The Queen’s extraordinary reign, and Her Majesty’s remarkable life of service as Head of State, Nation and Commonwealth.
The service will be an hour long. Near the end of it, two minutes of silence will be observed in the Abbey and throughout the United Kingdom. God Save the King will bring the service to a close.
The Queen’s coffin will then be transported through the historic heart of London from Westminster Abbey to Wellington Arch near Buckingham Palace on a horse-drawn gun carriage, with Charles and other Royal Family members walking behind.
From there, the coffin will be driven in the state hearse to Windsor for a committal service at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle, where the coffin will be lowered into the Royal Vault next to her husband Prince Phillip.

Who will attend the service from Australia?
Australia’s Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will be in attendance, accompanied by his partner Jodie Hayden, along with Australia’s Governor-General David Hurley and his wife Linda.
Acting High Commissioner to the UK Lynette Wood and RSL president Greg Melick are other Australian officials who will be there.
Ten “everyday” Australian citizens from across all states and territories have also had the honour of being invited to attend.
Albanese said that in addition to the invitations extended to Australia’s heads of state, Buckingham Palace had wanted to invite 10 Australians who had made “extraordinary contributions to their communities, and who represent Australian culture and values”.
They are:

- 2022 Senior Australian of the Year, Valmai Dempsey
- 2021 Senior Australian of the Year, Dr Miriam-Rose Ungunmerr Baumann
- 2022 NSW Australian of the Year Local Hero, Shanna Whan
- 2022 QLD Australian of the Year Local Hero, Saba Abraham
- 2022 TAS Australian of the Year Local Hero, Kim Smith
- 2021 WA Australian of the year, Helen Milroy
- 2022 SA Young Australian of the Year, Trudy Lin
- the i4give Day co-founder, Danny Abdallah
Australian Racing Hall of Fame’s Chris Waller, who looked after many of the Queen’s horses and formed a strong friendship with her, was also invited but unfortunately, illness has prevented him from attending.
It’s been reported that Army veteran Ben Roberts-Smith will also be in attendance after the Queen had asked that all Victoria Cross recipients, such as Mr Roberts-Smith, be invited.
